Flag Day : U.S. Army's Birthday + PRIVATE SNAFU CARTOONS

This past Thursday was the commemoration of our American flag (1777), and also the mark of the begining of the U.S. army in 1775, who's forces have brought a great sense of security to our world. PRIVATE SNAFU was a character created in the mid 1940s as training aides for US troops. SNAFU, stands for Situation Normal: All F*** Up. These cartoons were NOT intended for children, they were exclusive material shown to solders during World War II, their target audience, being simple minded literacy solders. The light use of vocabulary and racy illustrations, taught all solders the importance of gas masks, camouflage, spies and booby trap awareness, ect. Since then these cartoons were meant to all be destroyed, but later have been found and restored to be distributed to the public. Directed by Freank Capra, and written by Philip D Eastman, Munro Leaf, and Theodor Geisel (who would later be better known as Dr. Seuss.)The Private Snafu character was originally intended for Disney but Warner Bros underbid the company, leading to their ownership rights. There are over 50+ of these historic cartoons, and as I continue to blog Ill be sure Private SNAFU makes an appearance.

WALT DISNEYS: INCOME TAXES TO BEAT THE AXES!

Ive just received my income tax letter from the state, and I'm happy to pay all 20 dollars! Notice how this cartoons message starts out light hearted then transitions to clearly depict who the enemy is, and how your actions might be contributing to the enemy. Once again Disney never fails to capture their demographics attention, and sways them in the appropriate and most "American" direction. As far as taxes being contributed for the making of weapons there are several other funds that our payments contribute to; which keeps our country safe, educated, healthy, and comfortable.

Tex Avery : TV of Tomorrow

Warner Brothers takes a futuristic approach to television development in this cartoon released in 1953. The use of screens in our lives have really taken shape to how we take in information, and how we really perceive the working world. With the likes of Coca-Cola (large companies who have the money to distribute screens that personally market their product)-- consumers are so use to touch screen technology, that being a loyal customer happens without thought.
In the second video, the company Corning gives us an insight as to what life will be like if we start to integrate screens into our everyday functions. More specifically they call this technology "Smart Glass".
Can we guess between Corning and Coca-Cola which uses Microsoft and which uses Macintosh?

Disney's: Victory Vehicles

In this classic Disney Production, Goofy plays several different characters whos attempt at eliminating the use of oil/ gas in automobiles resulting in balmy mobile inventions. The message being sent is ahead of its time, and the humor is right on Disney target. In Shot: 4:55 Goofy runs into a billboard with the words "Beat the Japs with Scraps" During World War II, Scrap Drives were helled at schools and communities all across the country in effort to recycle metals for the manufacturing of air planes, tanks, and copper bullets. Even in our past Rationing and eco awarness was a way that the community could feel like there were doing something for their Country and boosted moral during pressures times.

"Make Mine Freedom"

An anti communist cartoon from 1948, there are plenty of hidden messages in this video that I cant help but giggle at. I've been accused of having communistic theories myself, mainly cause I wrote with my left hand and take the side of the help when defence is called for. The word communist to me seems to be am effective word for "capitalists" to reference so people know what NOT to be.
P.S.
Forgive the vague details I'm still learning what all this means to me as well. I slept all through Government and History my Senior year in High School (sorry Mrs. Swenson), so please be patient. Im using this blog as a personal tool to help myself forum a stronger opinion about my country, as it will be my first time voting this year.
